Farmer’s brutally killed
Thursday, 20 August 2009
The killing of an elderly man and burning of his house have again place the volatile St James community of Mount Carey on the radar.
About 4am Thursday, residents of York Bush in Mount Carey reported hearing explosions and shortly after, they saw the home of Noel Forrester, 59, a farmer engulfed in flames.
The police and firefighters were called while residents desperately tried to put out the blaze, thinking Mr. Forrester was inside.
When the smoke cleared, residents searched the rubble but an onlooker came upon Mr. Forrester's body in the yard with bullet wounds.
His head was severed.
The incident has sent shock waves through the already tense community with residents describing the farmer as a hard worker.
No motive has yet been established for the killing which is one of nearly 10 committed in the area since the start of the year.
